Work

The Theatre of the Women of the Camp مسرحية لنساء المخيم is a theatre ensemble made up of two generations of Palestinian women from Borj el Barajneh Refugee Camp – a camp that has existed 73 years. Despite the camp now being part of the urban landscape of Beirut, it is a place isolated culturally from the rest of the city. The Theatre aims to change that, by cultivating a powerful narrative from the camp that showcases true stories written and performed by camp women that have lasting resonance, meaningful consequence and distinct points of view. The project aims to re-imagine the camp from spaces of emptiness, of waiting, of victims, of refugees to spaces of knowledge, demands, artistic talent, and powerful storytelling.

Co-founded by Fadia Loubani, Palestinian writer, born and living in Borj el Barajneh Refugee camp, and her friend, Sophie Ramløv Barclay Hatem, Danish Anthropologist and Theatre Director.
